contemplating humanity
Mixed Media Sculpture with wire , paper and fabric and wood . This sculpture is an exploration and contemplation of our individual humanity and our response to human rights in Ireland , it’s an exploration of what would our individual humanity look like be like if we could see it just by its self and touch it . The golden wire is used to make a 3D drawing reflective of how our humanity shines brightly and runs though every part of our being , how it is challenged to accept change and respond positively to pressure without breaking . There is more intense knotting inspired by Celtic knots of the wire on hands and face as these are the parts of our bodies we use most to express our humanity. The head has a number of large holes to reflect our mental blind spots as individuals and the need to continually reflect and contemplate on our individual humanity and remember that universal human rights begins at home and in our local communities.
